Little Moments
"I can feel guilty about the past, apprehensive about the future, but only in the present can I act. The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness.
-Abraham Maslow

-Abraham Maslow
"The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable."
--James A. Garfield
"Logic is the art of going wrong with confidence."
--Joseph Wood Krutch
"Living in the past is a dull and lonely business; looking back strains the neck muscles, causes you to bump into people not going your way."
--Edna Ferber
Ever have a bad day in sales. Do whatever you can to get over it the next day.
"The way a
team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch
of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club
won’t be worth a dime."
"There is a passion for perfection which you rarely see fully developed, but...in successful lives it is never wholly lacking."

Have to follow through.
"I once wanted to become an atheist, but I gave up - they have no holidays."
--Henny Youngman
Just funny.
"Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut."
--Ernest Hemmingway
This just seemed fun. If we followed this, we'd all be very wealthy ;->.
"The
legitimate object of government is to do the community of people whatever they
cannot do at all, or cannot do as well for themselves in their separate or
individual capacities. In all that
people can individually do as well for themselves, government ought not to
interfere."
--Abraham
Lincoln
This is the reasoning I consider myself a moderate Republican. Interesting, though, that the party I voted for in 2004 failed my city under the most extreme circumstances, which correlates with the first line of this quote. The fundamental problem I have with the Democratic party is that they do not have faith in the people to take care of themselves. They're too quick to offer a handout.
"Every person takes the limits of their own field
of vision for the limits of the world."
--Arthur Schopenhauer
If you think you can't, you're probably right.
"Half the
failures in life arise from pulling in one’s horse as he is leaping."
-Augustus
Hare
Finish what you start and have faith in what you are doing.
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been
baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased
like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that
once was good, and that could be again."
-James Earl Jones, Field of Dreams
I'm pumped. Atlanta Braves pitchers and catchers reported to camp yesterday. I love baseball season and am very excited to finally be living in my favorite teams town.
"Start everyday with a smile and get it
over with."
This is the hardest part of my day ;->.
"The
greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will
make one."
"Sex is
something I really don’t understand too hot. You never know where the hell
you are. I keep making up these sex
rules for myself, and then I break them right away."
-J.D.
Salinger, Holden Caufield in The Catcher in the Rye
This doesn't really apply to me (at least if you ask my girlfriend). I remember the first time I read this in high school. I thought it was hilarious because most men get lost (at least if you ask most women) and can't find their way. To me, it sums things up in a nutshell. Anyway, since it's Valentine's Day, I thought this would be appropriate.
"Breaking up is like knocking over a Coke machine...you can't knock it over in one push. You have to rock it back and forth a few times and then it falls over."
-Jerry Seinfeld
Just odd and true. It always makes me smile.
"A visionary, vision is scary, could start a revolution."
-Eminem, Without Me
It's always amazing to me how scared people are of change. We can make ourselves believe anything to avoid change. Always try to listen, then think before making a decision.
"You have no control over what the other guy does. You only have control over what you do."
--A.J. Kitt
I've always loved this one because I'm one of those people who perpetually think and over analyze things too much.
"Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by the sense of touch, because everyone can see but only a few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion."
--Niccolo
Machiavelli, The Prince
Want to go somewhere? Think outside the box and do everything with integrity.
"Leaders aren't born they are made. And they are made
just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll
have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal."
--Vince Lombardi
This quote meant much more to me after I attending a mass leadership conference at the New Orleans Arena last year. It's 15,000 people in a room that think they'll become leaders by listening to these posers trying to sell them materials. You either got it or you don't.
"Having a vision is the most important thing. Set priorities and stick to them."
--Joseph
Nye
I don't agree with most of what this guy says, but I'm definitely with him on this one.
